Katrina Kaif beats top Bollywood stars in mobile search

New Delhi, (BollywoodWorld.com) Bollywood actor Katrina Kaif is the most searched celebrity on the mobile phones and has beaten the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai.

The research was conducted by mBit Infotech, a Value Added Service(VAS) provider.

Commenting on the results, Raghavendra Agarwala, CEO of mBit Infotech, said: “It is amazing to see that Katrina Kaif is ruling the charts with a major pie, presumably implying that Katrina’s popularity is mounting for both national and international audiences.”

The research is based on the searches performed by over 120,000 users of mBit in the first quarter of 2010 (Jan to April) and it also found out that “sex” is still the most popular searched keyword followed by music where mostly international music icons like Akon, Linkin Park, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Rihanna and Michael Jackson top the list.

Shahrukh Khan shoots for ad despite fever

Mumbai, Shah Rukh Khan is known for his professionalism and the superstar proved his commitment to work recently when he went to shoot for a toothpaste ad despite having fever.

Shah Rukh, the new brand ambassador of Pepsodent toothpaste, had to shoot for its latest ad campaign “Pappu and Pappa” at Filmcity for three days.

Even though Shah Rukh was down with 104 degree (Fahrenheit) fever, he made sure that it did not affect the shooting schedules. The actor made it a point to shoot for the campaign instead of cancelling it, said a source.

Shah Rukh has teamed up with child artist Keval and had to give multiple shots till his young co-star got it all right.

Shah Rukh did not complain throughout the long hours of shoot besides the numerous takes he was made to go through, said the source.

The ad is about a father-son relationship and on the sets Shah Rukh behaved a perfect dad encouraging Keval at every cut, pepping him if he would get bored.

Chunky got extra scenes in ‘Housefull’, courtesy Akshay

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, infamous for chopping scenes of his co-stars for more footage, had a change of heart when it came to Chunky Panday.

Akshay increased Chunky’s scenes in their last outing “Housefull” and also gave him opportunities to enhance his scenes.

“When Akshay and I shot scenes together, he suggested many improvisations for me to do in those scenes that were scripted. He allowed me to do more in certain scenes than himself,” said Chunky.

“He was very unselfish as an actor and his suggestions really upped the quality of many scenes (in the movie),” he added.

Directed by Sajid Khan, the movie that was declared a hit, also starred Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Boman Irani and Arjun Rampal.

Ram Gopal Varma to resurrect Vivek Oberoi's career

He launched Vivek Oberoi seven years back and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again come to actor's rescue as he says that his upcoming directorial venture 'Rakta Charitra' will resurrect Vivek's career.

After launching him in superhit 'Company' in 2002, Varma went ahead and made 'Road' and 'Dum' with the actor, who was being touted as the next big thing in Bollywood.

Then came Yashraj's 'Saathiya' which marked the biggest hit of Vivek's career but little did the actor know that its about relationships and right attitude in Bollywood.

Soon after his infamous Salman Khan-bashing press conference, came Vivek's downfall with no leading filmmaker wanting to work him.

The actor's high-headedness even put off his mentor, Varma, and the filmmaker vowed not to work with him again.

However, after Vivek's constant effort to rebuild their relationship, the two have buried their hatchet and this time Varma is launching the actor as Paritala Ravi in 'Rakta Charitra', a biopic on rebel-turned-politician in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

"Vivek is a very fine actor. I have always had faith in his potential," Varma said.

The director added that Vivek was the perfect choice for the role as no one else could have pulled off the character.

"I know that if given a powerful role, Vivek can do wonders and that is what he has done in Rakta Charitra. It is going to be the biggest film of his career," Varma added.

It was Vivek's intensity coupled with his vulnerability, which made him a perfect choice to play Paritala Ravi, according to Varma.

The director has finished shooting 80 per cent of the film which is being simultaneously shot in Hindi, Telegu and Tamil.

Another actor, who Varma says will be the surprise package in the film, is Shatrughan Sinha, who will be seen new moustache-less avatar playing a role inspired by former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N T Rama Rao.

Varma, who "reinvented" Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan with films like 'Nishabd', 'Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag' and 'Sarkar' says it is exciting for him to cast senior actors and give them roles which challenge their existing image.

"I have always admired Shatrughan Sinha and I was keen to do something drastically different with him which you will see in Rakta Charitra. His character plays a major part in the rise of Ravi," Varma said.

The filmmaker is also bringing South Indian star Suriya to Bollywood. Since it's actor's first Hindi film, Suriya is leaving no stone unturned to vow the Bollywood audience.

Suriya, whose lead role in 'Ghajini' was emulated by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in its Hindi remake, seems to have convincingly impressed director. With muscular body and a highly emoting face, Suriya is any director's dream, Varma says.

"Suriya is the one to watch out for," said Varma.

'Rakta Charitra' is about 5 hours long and will be divided into two parts and released within three months gap.

The first part is expected to hit the screens in August.

Julia Roberts says daughter wants to live in India

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts, who was in India last year to shoot for her upcoming film, said that her children loved staying in the country so much that her daughter wishes to live in India when she grows up.

Appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show, Roberts spoke about her upcoming movie 'Eat, Pray, Love', parts of which were shot in India last September.

The actress told Winfrey in the show aired on Monday she and her three children-- 5-year-old twins Finn and Hazel and 2 1/2-year-old son Henry-- were "amazed" by India.

"To be in India is to experience India. It is not that you have to go find it. It is all right there," Roberts said.

"The children love it. Hazel said when she grows up, that's where (India) she's going to live," she said adding that her daughter does not want to visit India occasionally but is keen on staying there.

The 42-year-old star travelled with her husband and kids to Italy, India and Bali to shoot for the movie, based on an eponymous book by American author and memoirist Elizabeth

Gilbert.

Roberts, who starred in blockbusters 'Pretty Woman' and 'Erin Brockovich', said her children enjoyed experiencing the culture of every place they visited.

Her son Finn even shaved his head before coming to India. "My kids were really into the culture of every place we went. Hazel also wanted to shave her head, so I let her shave the back half of her head. They would chant, and they were just interested," she said.

Roberts had stayed at the Pataudi Palace hotel in Gurgaon along with the cast and crew of the movie and filmed scenes at Ashram Hari Mandir near Delhi.

"They were very giving, which I guess is inherent to living on an ashram, to be open and giving. But they let us descend upon them. We had some rules to adhere to, and we tried to be on our best behaviour. And we did not show our shoulders," she said of her stay in the ashram.

The movie, a Brad Pitt production and directed by Ryan Murphy, features Roberts in the role of Gilbert, who gives up her New York home, a comfortable life and husband when she realises that she is unhappy with life.

She then travels to Italy, India and Indonesia in her quest for peace and love. The movie would release in August 2010.

Gross earning of ‘Kites’ reaches Over Rs 60 crore in three days

Gross earning of ‘Kites’ reaches Over Rs 60 crore in three daysRakesh Roshan, blasted at crictics for giving bad reviews for his movie ‘Kites’. Despite the unfavourable reviews, the film has become a box office hit.

“On the first day, the movie grossed Rs 21 crore. On Saturday, it earned Rs 20 crore and then on Sunday the collections increased by another Rs 21 crore,”
producer Rakesh Roshan told reporters.

The total three-day box-office collections, therefore, stand at Rs 62 crore.

“There has been no drop in collections. Going by the kind of reviews which we have got, the film should have been flopped by now,”
Roshan said.

Watched the movie??? What is your opinion???

Music album of I Hate Luv Storys’ leaked

The film industry is battling hard to combat piracy, as it is the biggest threat to the film industry, causing loss of revenue in millions.

The latest film that has been hit by the piracy plague is the upcoming Sonam -Imran starrer I Hate Luv Storys. The music of the film is officially scheduled to release on May 27. However, the entire album of I Hate Luv Storys has been leaked online.

CEO of Dharma Productions said,

“Well this was bound to happen. In fact to be frank the music of the film will release on the 27th, however, that will be the physical copy (of the album) while on the other hand, the digital version is already up and running on various foreign sites and carriers. So if there was a leak, it has happened from there.”

He adds, “We have given a date of May 27th keeping in mind that the music releases in big cities first, then smaller towns and later in other places. So by the 27th the whole of India will have the music of the film, in simpler terms this is what we call as a staggered release and hence give a later date when all cities and towns will have it.”

However, since the production house didn’t reveal any details of the online carriers which officially released the music of I Hate Luv Storys, it can be said that piracy has surely hit the music of one of the highly anticipated films of this year in a big way.

The onscreen couple seemed unfazed toward the lukewarm response of the critic and audience to their film.

While the actress, who has has worked in Mexican TV soaps and films like ‘Inspiracion’ and ‘La Mujer De Mi Hermano’, said ‘Kites’ was the best movie of her career.
Hrithik said that the 140-crore film is his labour of love straight from the heart which has garnered good reviews outside India.

“To each his own. I don’t really trust them (critics). When I debuted in Bollywood they referred me as god and then after two years they said I am finished. So I would rather follow my heart and do what I like than try to please the critics,” Hrithik said.

The film’s international version ‘Kites – The Remix’ has been edited by Hollywood director Brett Ratner of ‘Rush Hour’ and ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ fame, which will hit the theaters on May 28.

Badmaash Company about four friends doing con jobs to become rich overnight

Shahid Kapoor-starrer `Badmaash Company`, about four friends doing con jobs to become rich overnight, has got good reviews and viewers have enjoyed their capers but first time director Parmeet Sethi says he wrote the script of the film in frustration.

"The bell actually rang three years back when I was sure that I will direct a film. This is the second script that I have written," Parmeet told reporters.

"Yash Raj Films (YRF) had approved my first script too, but we couldn`t make it. I waited for one and a half years, but the film didn`t take off and I was frustrated. I was in a dilemma whether to stick to my plans to direct a film or go back to acting. Then in frustration, I wrote this script," he added.

"I had five ideas with me out of which two were most compelling. I wanted to write another script before this but that required research work in Canada, which would have taken six months. I didn`t have the money. I didn`t have the time. So I chose this one because I enjoy the genre very much. I think no one has done a full-on con film intelligently," the actor-turned director said.

Set in the 1990s, "Badmaash Company" is about four young friends - Shahid, Anushka Sharma, Vir Das and Meiyang Chang - from middle-class Mumbai who get together to start a company. Their business is an instant hit because they find a way to beat the system by doing all the wrong things in a right way.

The critics have praised the film despite it being too long.

"First, I worked out the whole con thing in my head, then I put it down on paper as script and then wrote dialogues. There are four con jobs in the film and I had to come up with interesting ideas each time to make it as believable as possible," said Parmeet.

To get the right feel of the 1990s, he shot some scenes in Hyderabad.

"The cars, the houses and other locations that we shot in Mumbai, I was particular about everything because I wanted to bring the essence of the 1990s. I actually went to Hyderabad to shoot the airport scene. Mumbai airport of today is very, very modern. But the Hyderabad airport still looks like the old Mumbai airport," he said.

The director, who worked with freshers like Vir and Chang, says he signed Anushka Sharma on Aditya Chopra`s recommendation.

"I wanted some very fresh faces and Vir and Chang were the perfect choice. I didn`t want to have predictable faces. Anushka was Adi`s recommendation. I didn`t know her personally. I was a little doubtful, but Adi assured me that I`ll like her once we meet," he said.

Parmeet, who featured in Aditya`s directorial debut "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (1995), says he was sceptical while approaching YRF to produce the film.

"I spoke over phone and asked for an appointment with Adi and I got it. That`s all I did. In the last 15 years I hardly met Adi as he hardly socialises...everyone knows that. I was hoping he hadn`t forgotten me. But he not only gave me the appointment but gave me respect and was pleasantly surprised by my script," he said.

Parmeet now wants to be behind the camera and make more films but doesn`t rule out the possibility of getting back to acting.

"I haven`t said good bye to anything. I don`t want to be cocky about life. But as of now it`s only direction for me. I think this is my main career now."

The third instalment of action thriller `Dhoom` is in scripting stage and will go on floors soon, revealed actor Uday Chopra, who starred in both `Dhoom` and `Dhoom 2`.

While "Dhoom" starred John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan, in the sequel, John was replaced by Hrithik Roshan.

Kites Movie Review by Taran Adarsh

Everyone gathered to make a fun movie, but no one had a plan to do it or any interest in figuring out how. That, unfortunately, is what a viewing of Anurag Basu's 'Kites' feels like. It feels like the kind of movie that might have been designed by a marketing software program for MBA studio executives. And it seems more like a product than an attempt to tell a story.

There's no way around it - 'Kites' is repetitive, flat and completely forgettable. Its fitfully unfunny, never exciting or engaging, modestly entertaining, excessively dimwitted, and finally just too darn long - in a nutshell, its relentlessly average. The film leaves a bad taste, not only because of its bad-luck timing, but also the staleness of its achingly inept script.

Rakesh Roshan has doled out one of the most moronic screenplays of the year, full of holes that will be obvious even to those who aren't looking for them. And despite the presence of the talented modern age Ed Wood Mr Brett Ratner, 'Kites' doesn't even come close to matching the somewhat sketchy Rush Hour films for thrills or laughs. Anurag Basu had a tiff with the Roshans and was not involved with the editing; but this formulaic countdown-to-oblivion Bollywood flick is so sluggish and impersonal, it could very well have been directed from two continents away by a remote-controlled robot.

But of course there's the stunning, gorgeous, eye popping cinematography by Ayananka Bose, who captures Hrithik at his magazine-cover-best in every frame. Regrettably the DOP's hard work is shabbily complimented by the set pieces which are painfully predictable right down to the inevitable finale. And it doesn't help that Hrithik phones in another money-grubbing performance as a nameless ABCD, who never moves any part of his face until the climax, when he smiles with relief that the movie's over. The surgically enhanced Barbara Mori doesn't impress either - the Roshans expect the audience to find something intrinsically funny about Mori mouthing 'Mai ullu ki paththi hu', but the Wonderbra-flaunting bombshell has little else to offer. The chemistry between the leads is as hot as the harmony shared by Amrita Arora and Isha Koppikar in 'Girlfriend'. Its a shame, since the 'fake' Hrithik-Barbara off-screen romance was used to publicize the flick. There is nothing remotely steamy about the waterfall sequence, unless you're 12 and are in a boys' school. And as a result of a plot device gone awry, a blasé Kangana Ranaut comes and goes in the twinkling of the eye.

'Kites' really is producer Rakesh Roshan's film more than Anurag Basu's, and Roshan reverts to his usual Modus Operandi. Its all terribly uninteresting as it plays like somebody spliced random moments of a rejected Yash Raj idea into a cliche-riddled but self-serious love story. Roshan and Co. would have saved millions and millions of rupees had they just used footage from the films they ripped off to make this film - while one key scene is frustratingly reminiscent of the French comedy 'Priceless', the big action sequence gallingly features stunts of Yuen Woo-ping's classics.

Final verdict? 'Kites' fails as a comedy. It fails as an action thriller. It fails as a romantic dramedy. In fact, the only category I would put it into is that of a failure.

Deepika attracts Woody Allen

Deepika Padukonein saree attracted many eyes at Cannes. Ever since Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone’s appeared at the Cannes film festival, she is getting lots of Hollywood offers. A friend of Deepika says, “Many Hollywood agents sent her messages, directly and indirectly, that they would like to be appointed by her if she was keen on Hollywood assignments.” Among them is filmmaker Woody Allen. Deepika is thrilled to be approached by Woody Allen. Allen expressed his desire to meet Deepika.

Commenting on Deepika’s reaction to these offers, her friend adds, “It’s too early to say what will happen next. Deepika created quite a buzz at Cannes. If a concrete Hollywood offer comes along, well and good. She would definitely consider it.”

Deepika attended the Cannes film festival for Chivas Regal in Rohit Bal’s designed saree. Deepika has just started her Bollywood journey and it’s great that Hollywood offers are coming her ways so early in her career.

Aamir attends Sachin's wedding

Aamir Khanmight not attend award function or some hi profile ceremonies but when it comes to attend his royal servant Sachin Gowda’s wedding
, he cancels all the important assignments to visit Bengaluru to attend his man Sachin Gowda’s wedding. Aamir Khan shows his humanity and how much he values family affairs.

Aamir was accompanied by his wife Kiran Rao. A source says, “This entire week was kept aside for Aamir to finish shooting some commercials. But Aamir suddenly had to cancel all his work commitments as he heard of Sachin’s marriage. The wedding date got finalised just a week ago so Aamir decided to cancel all his shoots and attend Sachin’s wedding. Aamir was keen to attend the two-day wedding celebrations despite his pre-planned work schedule. The actor was there for Sachin like a family member.”

Aamir contacted his ad filmmakers and asked them to cancel his shoots. “Luckily it was just a 3-4 hour shoot for the patchwork shoot of a commercial which could also be done at a later date. Aamir’s other commitment was a look test for another ad. Both these appointments have been put on hold for two days and didn’t really create much of a problem for the ad makers,” adds the source.

“Yesterday a ceremony was held at Sachin’s house and today there is a ceremony at the bride’s house. Sachin was particularly surprised to see Aamir at his wedding as he was aware of the actor’s professional commitments this week,” adds the source.

Movie Review - ‘Kites’ fails to meet its hype and expectations

The much-hyped and perhaps the most awaited summer release ‘Kites’ opened in theatres yesterday and evoked mixed response from the viewers. The major drawback of the movie was its failure to live up to the promises and hype which had been built up with the much hullaboo about sizzling chemistry and passionate romance between Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori.

The storyline of the film is sheer romance but lacks the smoldering and passionate sexual chemistry between the two stars which was what the fans expected. The story of the film is simple and predictable with no new twists. Jai aka J (Hrithik) is a street-smart Las Vegas guy who romances with a rich girl Gina (Kangna Ranaut) for her wealth. When he meets Gina’s brother Tony’s (Nick Brown) fiancee Natasha (Barbara), he falls in love with her. Natasha too falls for him and the lovers elope and then the chase begins.

Set aside the negative aspects of the movie and you have two great looking sexy people with some interesting moments, gripping action sequences in the second half of the film, international look and appeal and best of all, melodious scores by Rajesh Roshan.

The international version seems to be more impressive than the Hindi version considering the global appeal. To sum it all, a one time watch and an average turnout for an over hyped movie!!!

Iranian bride for Shahid Kapoor?

Obsessed with Sasha, Iranian woman tore her passport just to stay in the country; writes poems and has imaginary love chats with the star. True stories can, sometimes, make the filmiest Bollywood plot pale in comparison and Parvaneh Morteza Faghiri's is one such story.

The 39-year-old from Iran, who flew down to the city for the second time on May 7 to meet her 'one true love' Shahid Kapoor, is now in a rescue home and the Sahar police are completing formalities to send her back to Iran today.

How it began

Parvaneh says she saw Shahid on television and fell in love with him instantly because she found him romantic. Though she was married to an Iranian man and had a 15-year-old daughter, Zaara, she felt her husband did not love her and, thus decided to leave him.

In February last year, she flew down to Mumbai to meet the actor and convince him to marry her. She said that during her last trip to the city, she had showed people Shahid's photographs and asked for his address."According to her, one of the high points of her last trip was seeing Shahid at the airport once. She kept shouting out his name and he smiled in return. When Shahid was leaving, she shouted out again and he gave her another smile," said an official from the rescue home in Kandivli where Parvaneh has been staying.

Second trip

Parvaneh landed at the Sahar airport on May 7 and immediately started telling people that she wanted to meet Shahid. The Sahar police then took her to the police station, where she kept insisting that she be allowed to meet the actor. On being told that she would be sent back to Iran immediately, she tore up her passport.

Vidya’s multiple 'shades'

We thought Vidya Balan’s favourite accessories were her signature style jhumkas, the chunky beaded neck pieces, and even the rudraksha she so stylishly flaunts.

But wait... there is a dark side to this Southern beauty, too. Yeah, her favourite accessory is sunglasses – of all shapes, sizes and super-stylish brands. The lady can resist shopping clothes, shoes, bags and even her cool kurtas and designer saris, but the minute she spots dark glasses, she turns into a ‘shades shopaholic’. Recently, while shooting in Delhi she surprised her staff with the way she went on a shade shopping spree. Well lovely Vids, we aren’t as excited about your wide-range of sexy shades. How do we get a closer look at those lovely, deep, brown eyes? Tell us.
