Easter Sunday

Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ Jesus and the core of the Christian faith. Easter should encourage us Christians, to persevere in this life amidst hardships and trials. Easter reminds us that suffering and death can be conquered by us just as Jesus conquered sin and death with his resurrection.

There are times when our problems seem too big to handle and our crosses too heavy to carry. However, looking at Jesus, we are reminded that all these sufferings will pass if only we focus on the mission that has been entrusted to each one of us. The Easter celebration is also an invitation for us to share in the glory of the Father. As we reflect on the Easter mysteries, let us have a new perspective in life. The way the calendar works, Easter Sunday can take place no later than April 25. The date for Easter Sunday 2011 is April 24.

The modern calendar allows for 35 possible dates for Easter Sunday, between March 22 and April 25. A late Easter is also rare, with the last April 25 Easter Sunday in 1943 and the next in 2038.
As the Press-Enterprise notes, "For many people, Sunday will be the latest Easter in their lifetimes."
Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is a "moveable feast," similar to other Christian holidays like Ash Wednesday, Pentecost and Ascension Day.

Looking ahead, Easter Sunday 2012 falls on April 8, and the one after that is slated for March 31.
Easter usually accounts for approximately 20 percent of annual sales of candies at different stores as it is the second-biggest holiday. It is also expected that this year’s Easter will make up for that of 2008, which was the earliest Easter ever, celebrated on 23rd March. And due to that early celebration, stores produced around 5 percent fewer chocolate eggs and bunnies. This year’s late Easter means that sunrise will occur a few minutes into the 6 a.m.
